Maestro

Maestro is a trademark of MasterCard. Under this name payment cards are being issued in Europe. Perhaps you know this brand from your own payment card.

Unlike a Credit Card this card does not have a credit facility from Maestro. The official name is therefore also Debit Card. A Debit Card is linked to a bank account or a balance. When your spending limit has been reached, you can no longer use the card until you have a sufficient balance on e.g. your bank account.

The Maestro cards in Europe are being adapted for online use. All cards are using the '3D Secure' protocol. Unlike Maestro, not all the Credit Cards are using this protocol.

Accepting online payments via Maestro cards is therefore less sensitive for fraud. You should still be alert though for possible fraud.

Maestro acceptance is only available in our 'Plus' package and should be requested in conjunction with Credit Card. More information can be found on our rates page.
